Vettinjayathil Family
was one of the prominent nair families in Central Travancore , anchored in Thiruvalla Taluk. Family Home was built in a beautiful
valley, besides the paddy fields just along the boundary of puthusserry and chengaroor villages. Our ancestors owned
large amount of land in Kalloppara and Thrikkinnappuzha 'Pravrithies'(village office). These were earned by them from the
authorities of Edappally Swaroopam, who were the rulers of these places at that time. Our ancestors assisted local
administrators doing farming, tax collection and maintaining local law and order administration. They came here from
north, probably from Thambalakkad- Ponkunnam, presently in Kottayam district. They came to Thengana , near Changanacherry.
Njettoorkavu Temple was there. It was owned by a Namboothiri family.
Then they moved towards
south to Paippad, Kalloppara and Chengaroor. Agriculture along with cattle rearing was done extensively. The Edappally Thampuraan
or the ' Travancore king ' himself gave them the place of 'Land Lord' and the title 'Panicker'. They were ardent Devotees
also. The name 'Vettinjayam' may be an outcome of the law enforcement. 'njayam'- is 'nyayam' meaning ; justice. 'Vetti'
is 'being cut by sword'. So they might have justified every action ('vettu') with their sword , or they possessed the
privilege to do so .
